What is Oncobeta?

Oncobeta Rhenium is a new treatment for skin cancer, which can avoid surgery and traditional radiotherapy. It is entirely painless and does not involve any injections.

We are currently accepting bookings for treatment at the end of January 2024, for private patients. NHS treatments may be available after gaining NICE approval. The treatment is currently available in Australia and Europe.

Who can perform the treatment?

The treatment is performed by a nuclear medicine doctor, usually once a dermatologist has deemed your skin cancer to be a suitable case.

Dr Nicola Mulholland, Consultant in Nuclear Medicine and Dr Saqib Bashir, Consultant Dermatologist, are the two U.K. leaders in the field, having performed the only clinical trial cases in the country. This is what they say:

“Rhenium treatments will provide a revolutionary new choice for skin cancer patients” Dr. Saqib Bashir

“We can precisely calculate the dose required to treat each individual skin cancer. The patients simply relax on a couch until it’s complete.” Dr Nicola Mulholland

What’s involved ?

Treatment is straightforward. We simply need your to arrive a designated treatment centre, lie down on a couch and have the rhenium paste painted onto the skin cancer. As the material is radioactive, you will need to be in a special area in the hospital for up to 2 hours, before you can go home. We measure the radiation dose using a painless radiation counter, and you don’t feel a thing.

“Patients are attracted to a simple and painless treatment journey.”

Locations that we currently use are:

  • King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust

  • The London Clinic

Both of these hospitals have the specialist facilities that allow the safe use of radioactive treatments and are experienced in their use for many years.
